In honor of National Friends Day and an early Galentine’s Day, we’ve rounded up the most stylish gal pals from our favorite TV shows and movies. Read on and get some major inspiration from these badass babes of the silver screen!
1. Romy and Michelle
We know it’s a goofy movie but we don’t care. We loved how they wore their platforms even to the gym, and will likely be fantasizing about their Marabou-trimmed lycra mini dresses for the rest of our adult life. Style Tip: Costume Jewelry never goes out of style.
2. Daria and Jane
They wore the same thing every day, basically inventing the capsule wardrobe. Between their enviable Doc Martens, their ability to eat pizza without gaining a pound and their delicious sarcasm, we loved everything these sass queens had to offer. Style Tip: Layer up leggings under shorts and blazers over tops for a fun play on menswear. Oh, and don’t forget acidic wit.
3. Flaca and Maritza from OITNB
Prison uniforms aren’t exactly the height of fashion, yet you still get a complete sense of who these babes are on the outside. With rad music tastes and a friendship that won’t quit, these babes are badass to the bone. Style Tip: Down on your fashion luck? Fierce eyeliner can work wonders.
4. Blair and Serena from Gossip Girl
They had their ups, they had their downs. In either case, we rooted for their friendship until the very end. Plus, how jealous were we of their expendable high-school income?! Style Tip: Develop a signature style. Who would Blair be without her bows, gloves, and tights?
5. Thelma and Louise
Nothing says friendship like a road trip, and especially one that involves a lil’ shootin. These babes were the OG badasses, and inspired a whole new wave of feminist friendships. After all, they literally give meaning to the phrase “ride or die”. Style Tip: Vintage muscle tanks and high waisted jeans never go out of style- especially with the top down.
6. Paris and Nicole in The Simple Life
For those of us who love pink (ahem, hi, hello) this show was like an exercise in envy (and also a lesson in 2000’s tackiness). The pair was well known for their antics, their one-liners, and most importantly their fashion. Style Tip: Basically, if it looks like a belt it’s too short to be a skirt. And rhinestones? Are good everywhere.
7. Cher and Dionne from Clueless
We would be remiss if we didn’t include this iconic duo (trio if you could Tai, but obviously only post-makeover.) Just look at those lapels! Those argyle prints and button up skirts! Trend forecasting of the early 2010’s, if we do say so ourselves. Style Tip: Always be aware of how important a good piece of clothing is. You know that scene where Cher refuses to dirty her Alaia dress? She knows good fashion must be protected.
8. The Girls from Sex And The City
Hello, fashion icons of the 2000’s! It seemed like every one of them was perpetually dressed well, and every friend group had a Carrie, a Charlotte, a Miranda and a Samantha. It truly was a win-win no matter which one you were. Style Tip: Rewatch, and take notes. Carrie dressed according to her mood, and wasn’t ever afraid to express herself through fashion. Its an important lesson, and one which is still as relevant as ever in the era of quirky dressing.
9. Edina and Patsy from Absolutely Fabulous
Between the two of them their drug use and drinking puts us twenty-somethings to shame. Cutting edge fashion meets a desperate attempt to stay trendy and relevant, and somehow it ends up being, well, absolutely fabulous. Style Tip: Do whatever the fuck you want, despite your age. These women never cared that they were older; they dressed how they wanted to and made no apologies.
10. Ilana and Abbi from Broad City
So, as far as fashion goes their style is pretty normal. (Although that one tropical leaf-print romper Ilana wore in Nomo Fomo was basically a dream.) However, these babes definitely know that fashion matters, and damn it, they’re trying their hardest. Plus they can spot a Forever 21 knockoff a mile away, an enviable skill. Style Tip: Sometimes humor is the best accessory.
That about rounds out our count! Who did we forget on this list? Let us know your thoughts!
xx
